I don’t know about you but we’ve pretty much forgotten what the inside of an office looks like?
As ‘Freedom Day’ is announced, a lot of us will be hanging up our joggers, and dusting off our work outfits to head back into the office, with the Shu Da team being no exception. I think we can safely say no one has missed the office commute (how did we manage to get up so early to factor in a two hour train journey before 9am?!) but don’t fear, the Shu Da team have put together their top 5 tips for a dreamy, stress-free commute.
1. A good book
One of the things we’ve missed in lockdown is being able to get through a book a week on a long train commute! Getting lost in a good book makes the journey go much more quickly, and you almost wish the journey was longer so you can read more! Here at Shu Da we are loving Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine, which takes you from laugh-out loud funny to poignant moments following the character's everyday life.
2. Comfy Footwear
Ever bought that gorgeous pair of shoes online you thought would go perfect with your work outfit? Only to realize after stepping out the door you can’t wear them for longer than 10 minutes without causing agony to your feet. The last thing you want to do is miss your last train because you had to abandon your heels at Waterloo station. Comfy commuter trainers are essential for keeping your feet happy on those long commutes. Here at Shu Da, we cannot recommend our super comfortable Olivia and Jessica Flyknit Trainers enough.
3. Great Podcasts
Podcasts are a great way to pass the time whilst driving in the car or on the bus. If you’re a documentary fan, Louis Theroux’s BBC Radio 4 Grounded podcast is a fascinating window into the lives of iconic celebrities, or if you’re looking for a laugh to start your morning, Rob Beckett and Josh Widdicombe’s Lockdown Parenting is great for parents and will leave you stifling laughs on the train.
4. Water Bottle
With the weather in the UK hotting up this week, it’s so important to stay hydrated especially on long journeys. There is nothing worse than being stuck in traffic in what feels like Mediterranean temperatures and not having water close to hand. There are so many BPA free water bottles available on the market and if it’s a recycled or sustainable water bottle that’s a plus!
5. Commuter Bag
When you’re rushing between trains, buses and tubes you need to have a comfy bag which doesn’t leave you feeling like you need to shell out for a shoulder massage every time you use it! Backpacks have definitely come a long way over the last few years with so many more options and styles available. Functionality is key including waterproof features in case you’re stuck standing on a train platform, and laptop pockets to transfer your tech safely now we are working between the office and home more!
